Te Puawaitanga o Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi

It’s been 16 years since the establishment of Kii Tahi Limited, formally Kii Tahi Nursery and Land care which was established in 2003 with the assistance of funding from Te Puni Kokiri.  In that time we have seen a number of great things come from the little nursery next door to Wai-o-Turi Marae where the business dreams and aspirations continue to grow.

On Monday 29th April 2019, Ngaa Rauru came together to celebrate the successful journey and fruitful future of Kii Tahi Limited and Te Kaahui o Rauru.  This also provided an opportunity for Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi to invite the Minister of Conservation; Hon. Eugenie Sage to the Iwi for the signing of the Department of Conservation Protocol and for Te Kaahui o Rauru to announce the Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi Conservation Committee.  The Protocol has been established to set out how the Department of Conservation will interact with Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi on specific matters.  The committee is made up of Ngaa Rauru uri (kaitiaki) and Te Paepae (Te Kaahui o Rauru governance board).  These members are:

From Te Paepae: Te Huatahi Hawira; Taipakee Marae, Rakei Hina; Paakaraka Marae and Neihana Pari; Te Wairoa Iti Marae.

Ngaa Rauru Uri: Aaria Dobson-Waitere (Tauranga Ika, Paakaraka, Kaipoo, Takirau Marae), Mahalia Tapa-Mosen (Kai Iwi, Wai-o-Turi Marae), Mosalene McGregor (Kaipoo, Waipapa, Te Ihupuku, Paakaraka Marae), Anaru Phillips (Paakaraka Marae), Parekaia Walsh-Tapiata (Wai-o-Turi, Te Ihupuku, Tauranga Ika, Paakaraka, Te Aroha, Whenuakura Marae), Rawharangi Katene (Te Ihupuku, Wai-o-Turi, Waipapa, Takirau, Kaipoo, Tauranga Ika, Paakaraka, Te Aroha, Whenuakura, Kai Iwi, Taipakee Marae)

The Conservation Committee will work collectively and collaboratively with the Department of Conservation (DoC) and the Iwi to ensure the best interests of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi.

As well the DoC Protocol signing and the committee establishment was an opportunity to celebrate the numerous successes of the Iwi which were displayed throughout the Marae. These included Te Kooiwi-roa – The Ngaa Rauru Education Curriculum, Te Wai Koiora Stage 1, The 2019 Waitootara Awa Hiikoi and of course the Kaitahi Journey.

A visit to the Kii Tahi site along with some planting had been planned for the day however the weather didn’t quite cooperate the way we intended with wind and rain also stopping by to partake in the day’s events, however the day was far too beautiful and bright to let a little rain ruin it all for us.

For Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi, the whole day was a highlight from start to finish.  Being able to celebrate with our people, in the presence of so many who have worked alongside us in partnership at home on the Marae will be a memory we will hold dear to our hearts….

It’s been 16 years since Ngaa Rauru’s first business was established, let’s see what another 16 years brings us.
