Te Kooiwi-roa o Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi

TE TIMATATANGA: INTRODUCTIONThe purpose of the project is to develop a Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi curriculum, to meet the aspirations of whaanau, hapuu and iwi, as identified in Te Kooiwi-roa o Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi Education Framework.  It is a priority project for Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi to participate with the Ministry of Education in a shared outcomes arrangement.  Two further documents that form the foundation of this project are “HOPE – MAAKU” Towards 2020 (Perfect Vision) 2009 and Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi 2011 Iwi Education Environmental Scan.

Te Wai Koiora

This project supports hapuu and whaanau o Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi to become actively involved in the restoration and monitoring of seven waterways that are culturally significant to them.
Eight kilometres of waterways will be fenced off from stock, their channels and banks cleared of willows, poplars and waste and riparian margins established. Hapuu will work with their Regional Council (Horizons and Taranaki) and Department of Conservation partners to develop a waterway health monitoring framework that includes cultural, as well as, scientific indicators. They will also learn how to implement this framework to undertake a quarterly monitoring programme of all the waterways and an annual survey of the Waitootara River.
